Marketing to Women in Social Media - What Do Women Want?

Marketing to women in social media has got to be one of the biggest buzzwords in marketing right now. It's understandable, women are a powerful group. There is a long line of people who claim to know how to market to women. But few are doing it right. One thing I can't stand is when advertisers put women in the cookie cutter "pink" section of marketing. You know what I mean? We are not just a soft version of a man. You can't just repackage mens-marketing ideas by throwing a few flowers at the picture. Sorry guys that misses the mark about as much as that drill you bought us for our birthday. Yep we are a bit more complicated than that if you haven't already guessed. So what should be your strategy when marketing to women in social media?
What Do Women Want From Marketers In Social Media

1. Transparency. We notice all the tiny details of how you say things and evaluate whether or not you are being real with us. We want you to be honest, show us who you are, and what you stand for. Does that scare you? Well, it should, because that means you have to know what you are talking about, offer us something that is real and beneficial to us, and personally stand behind it. The old saying " it's not personal it's just business" doesn't fly with us. The one thing that is true about marketing to women in social media is that it is personal.
2. Relationship. We are by far more loyal shoppers than men. We are looking for a trusted ally to align our buying dollars with in return for quality products, and consumer respect. We will be back, again and again if you prove to us that you think we are valuable, and respected. Treat us flippantly and we are gone. The next business opportunity, job, or deal on shoes is just another mouse click away.
3. Patience. Many marketers have said they don't like marketing to women because we are too slow to " pull the trigger" and buy. They get tired of our questions and our deliberation time. My answer for those marketers is "too bad, and buck up". Learn what makes us pull that trigger instead of wishing we were different. We are going to make an informed decision that comes after our questions are answered and we are satisfied that you, and what you are trying to sell us, are real.
Why do women need all this you may wonder? Well it goes back to our loyalty. We have to believe that this is something worth putting our name behind. More importantly, we have to be able to defend our decision to our girlfriends. Win us and you don't just have a loyal customer, you have a loyal customer who will tell all her friends about it and those friends will listen. You see we bring you great benefits for your efforts. Do you remember in high school how if one girl in a group had to go to the bathroom that all the girls had to go? Well think of your product as the bathroom. If I go, I'm bringing 20 of my closest friends with me. We may be harder to win, but we are worth it.
