You have every intention of keeping your new years resolutions. But by Valentines day you’ve long forgotten them. What went wrong? Why did you give up so quickly? And what is your plan for actually keeping them this year? What you need to do is take a New years resolution evaluation. Here are five steps to get you started on keeping this years resolutions.
- Be decisive: Make a decision. It means you choose it and don’t turn back, even when it’s hard. Make the decision to achieve your resolution this year and then make it happen. Keep your resolutions to two or three at the most. Too many and you run the risk of becoming overwhelmed. Focus on which ones mean the most to you.
- Be Specific: Don’t allow yourself to have vague resolutions. The more specific you are the more likely you are to achieve them. If you want to earn more money in the next year, write down exactly how much more you want to make, when you want to make it by, and how you are going to make it. For example: “I want to make $10,000 a month, in twelve months, with my new on-line marketing business.”
- Be organized: Use a personal calendar; schedule your goals, and when you want to achieve them by. Shorter benchmarks, (30, 60, and 90-day intervals), of achievement will help keep you accountable. For example: If $10,000 a month is your ultimate goal, break it down into smaller benchmarks. $2000 in the first month $3000 the second month and so on. If you reach your goal in your new on-line marketing business before your scheduled date, don’t slack off, use that to raise the bar on expectations.
- Be Diligent: Don’t give up. There will be times when you think you will never achieve your goal and that is when you need to take another new years resolution evaluation. See what is working and what isn’t. Do you need to work harder? Do you need to adjust your goal? Either way, make yourself successful. Don’t wimp out, but be realistic. Perhaps you need to be more effective with your time in order to be successful. Evaluate, but be persistent in your pursuit. Break the cycle of procrastination. Work on your resolution a little bit everyday and before you know it you will be celebrating your achievement.
How many people keep their new years resolutions? There will be one more than last year if you follow these four steps. Life is too short to only wish for what you really want. Make it happen with persistence and focus. There is no benefit to you in procrastinating, change your mind and change your life.
